I love working on my business in wifi cafes. The combination of caffeine, ambient noise, and time away from the home-office based distractions of the cleaning and washing I should be doing makes it very productive for me.
It also leads to interesting conversations about what I do. I was asked by a barista at one of my favourite wifi cafes on the Gold Coast (Blackboard Café at Varsity Lakes, well worth a visit) what I do for work. When I explained a bit about my business, he said “I can’t understand people who don’t know how to write resumes, I’ve been doing it with no problems since they taught me how in high school and uni and I find it easy.”
Cover letters can be a great way to sell yourself. In an ideal world, recruiters would read every last word of each cover letter and resume, in order to make sure they gave applicants the best possible chance to succeed in their job search.
Resumes are a pain in the butt. They are annoying and painful to write, and tedious for recruiters to read. But your resume is your best and in most cases only chance of getting your foot in the door at any organisation you apply to. Often qualified candidates are rejected because of simple mistakes.
